My daughter just developed a ridge that starts from her soft spot till a fingertip onto her forehead. The doctor sent her for an ultrasound, which appeared normal. I see her facial structure changed as it has become elongated and her forehead narrower. The doctor feels her soft spot closed at a normal time and it just fused with a ridge. I have noticed some regression in her speech. I advocated for a CT scan and the doctor is willing to provide me peace of mind! They have to sedate her. I just want to have others opinions if a CT scan is necessary especially if the doctor feels she is developing normal and the ridge is nothing to worry about. Any advise would be welcomed! Thanks so much.

Hi - While a CT scan may seem scary invest in your piece of mind. I noticed a ridge on my daughter’s skull brought it up to the doctor and was told not to worry about it. She also had some slight facial changes - right side of her forehead was flatter than the left and her right eye was more of a circle shape than the almond shape of her left eye. It took her falling out of her highchair and getting huge bump on her head to get a CT scan to see that she had craniosynostosis. I wish I had pushed my doctor sooner to get the scan but we view that accident as a blessing in disguise. No one wants their child to be sedated but you have clear reasons to back up why you want this done and an x-ray won’t tell you the whole story. Depending on your daughter she will have to keep her head very still during the scan – if she can do that then you might be able to avoid sedation but it depends on the place. Best of luck to you and your family.
